I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1976 for driving under the
influence of alcohol. I pled guilty, paid a fine, and had my driver's
license suspended for 30 days. My Texas driving record has been
"lost"
and is not available.
Military:
I joined the Texas Air National Guard and went AWOL. I refused to
take a drug test or answer any questions about my drug use. By
joining the Texas Air National Guard, I was able to avoid combat duty
in Vietnam .

College: I graduated from Yale University with a low C average. I was a
cheerleader.

PAST WORK EXPERIENCE:

I ran for U.S. Congress and lost. I began my career in the oil
business in Midland, Texas in 1975. I bought an oil company, but
couldn't find any oil in Texas. The company went bankrupt shortly
after I sold all my stock.
I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that
took land using taxpayer money.

With the help of my father and our friends in the oil industry
(including Enron CEO, Ken Lay), I was elected governor of Texas.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS GOVERNOR OF TEXAS:

I changed Texas pollution laws to favor power and oil companies,
making Texas the most polluted state in the Union. During my tenure,
Houston replaced Los Angeles as the most smog-ridden city in America.

I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas treasury to the tune of billions
in borrowed money.

I set the record for the most executions by any governor in American
history.

With the help of my brother, the governor of Florida, and my father's
appointments to the Supreme Court, I became President of the United
States, after losing by over 500,000 votes.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT:

I am the first President in U.S. history to enter office with a
criminal record.

I invaded and occupied two countries at a continuing cost of over one
billion dollars per week.

I spent the U.S surplus and effectively bankrupted the U.S. Treasury.

I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in U.S.
history.

I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any
12-month period.

I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period.

I set the all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the
U.S.
stock market. In my first year in office, over 2 million Americans
lost their jobs and that trend continues.

I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are the richest of any
administration in U.S. history. My "poorest millionaire,"
Condoleezza Rice,
has a Chevron oil tanker named after her.

I set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips by a U.S.
President.

I am the all- time U.S. and world record holder for receiving the
most corporate campaign donations.

My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends,
Kenneth Lay, presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in
U.S. history, Enron.

My political party used Enron private jets and corporate attorneys to
assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my election
decision.

I have protected my friends at Enron and Halliburton against
investigation or prosecution. More time and money was spent
investigating the Monica Lewinsky affair than has been spent
investigating one of the biggest corporate rip-offs in history. I
presided over the biggest energy crisis in U.S. history and refused
to intervene when corruption involving the oil industry was revealed.

I presided over the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history.

I changed the U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded
government contracts.

I appointed more convicted criminals to my administration than any
President in U.S. history.

I created the Ministry of Homeland Security, the largest bureaucracy
in the history of the United States Government.

I've broken more international treaties than any President in U.S.
history.

I am the first President in U.S. history to have the United Nations
remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission.

I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law.

I refused to allow inspector's access to U.S. "prisoners of war"
detainees
and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention.

I am the first President in history to refuse United Nations election
inspectors (during the 2002 US election).

I set the record for fewest numbers of press conferences of any

duty benefits for active duty troops and their families in wartime.

In my State of the Union Address, I lied about our reasons for
attacking Iraq and then blamed the lies on our British friends.

I am the first President in history to have a majority of Europeans
(71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and
security.

I am supporting development of a nuclear "Tactical Bunker Buster,"

I have so far failed to fulfill my pledge to bring Osama Bin Laden to

"Yes We Can." ObamaMania Blows Through Three More Contests on Road to White House

The results are in: Sen. Barack Obama has won decisive victories in all three of the Maryland, Virgiania and DC "Potomac Primaries" Tuesday. His momentum is tremendous. Something's happening here that's hard to ignore. His campaign is alive and brimming with excitement. This gives him an impressive string of eight consecutive victories in the last 4 days in addition to the thirteen states he won on Super Tuesday. With each passing day, with each new speech, Barack Obama is starting to not only look like his party's clear nominee but, compared to the stiff, aging, conservative Republican relic John ("My Friends") McCain, he's also looking like our next president. It's very hard to watch all this and not get goosebumps; a strong sense that history's in the making.

The contrast between Obama and McCain is startling. Just watch their speeches. Behind the junior Senator from Illinois is a crowd of young, old, white, black, male, female. On stage with Arizona's McCain are old rich white men like Sen. John Warner and Rep Tom Davis. The 72-year-old McCain represents the past. A generation of conservative war-mongers and tax cut whores. The same-old-same-old standard GOP rhetoric. The 46-year-old Obama represents the future. He embodies the change for which Americans are desperate. He's inspiring a legion of young people to get involved in their future. He's arousing voters across the land with his thrilling speeches about a new world. About a new America. About the need to end the war, end the recession and create jobs, educate our young, provide universal heathcare for our children. To win back America's respect on the global stage. To bridge the divide between red and blue, between black and white. Wow. It's really hard not to get swept up in his passion and bask under his shining light.

What about Sen. Hillary Clinton, the once "sure thing?" For the former First Lady, the picture is getting bleaker and bleaker with each primary and caucus. Obama's raging momentum threatens to put a serious crimp in her fundraising efforts, which are already struggling. In politics, the money tends to follow the winner. Donors don't like toss money on a perceived loser. As the losses pile up, the delegates go to Obama and the financial pipeline narrows, Clinton is going to feel Obama's dust in her eyes. Her campaign will start to appear desperate, the consultants (if they don't get fired) will constantly change her message, and there will be missteps. She will look like a loser, and that's already starting.

Of note Tuesday are the critical inroads Obama made with certain voter groups. He picked up the union vote, white catholics, white males and came almost even with Clinton on whites overall. She still holds onto white females. Another potential wrench for Hillary are the so called "committed" Super-Delegates, who are technically not so committed after all. They can change their minds at any time. It's highly possible, and even likely, that they will see the handwriting on the wall like they did in 1984 when they unceremoniously dumped Gary Hart at the last minute to back Walter Mondale.

Obama deserves major kudos. He's running a brilliant, historic campaign. He now seems unstoppable. Change is in the air.

Why Al Gore Would've Won

Make no mistake. The Democratic Party is experiencing one of its most exciting presidential campaigns ever. For the first time in history, the party will be sending either a black man or a woman into the national election. Democrats are fired up. Ready for major change. Fed up with eight abysmal years of Bush/Cheney/Rove tyrannical rule. Judging from all the polls and the national pulse, we know that any Democrat will likely beat the GOP frontrunner, Sen. John McCain (AZ), and it's any Democrat we'll be happy with as our next president. While some may prefer Sen. Barack Obama (IL) and others Sen. Hillary Clinton (NY), the secret truth is, either candidate will make any Democrat ecstatic and proud.

But for former vice-president Al Gore, the inconvenient truth is that, had he run, he would be the party's nominee. The fact that Obama and Clinton are running such a tight horserace, in a virtual delegate dead-heat, demonstrates the degree to which voters are split. And that would've bode very well for The Goracle.

Let's take a look at what we know so far as to the perceived weaknesses of both Obama and Clinton, and how Gore differs:

1-Electibility: no issue here. Gore was elected once before, when the economy was humming and we were not at war. Times have changed, and he'd have been even more electible now.

2-Ability to Beat McCain: The crotchity 72-year-old Republican is a war-monger, woefully lax on the environment, and weak on economic policy. The much younger Democrat can speak to Americans' desire to end the war, protect the Earth and be fiscally prudent.

3-Skeletons in the closet: none. He's been vetted many times over already. Therefore, unlike the fear Democrats have about Hillary, Obama and a post-2000 Bill, there are no election-eve surprises about Gore. He's clean as a whistle.

4-Polarizing: Emmy, Oscar, Nobel Peace Prize. 'Nuf said?

5-Agent of Change: Gore can successfully appeal to the "change" voter without carrying the baggage associated with the Clintons or with Obama's overall inexperience.

6-Race/Gender: He's a white male with a solid history of advancing the rights of women and minorities. This won't make me popular among certain other liberals, but in 2008 America, still, a highly qualified white male would probably fare better that a woman or a black. To say that race or gender is not a political liability is just plain being naive. You can stick your head in the sand, but I won't

7-The Senator Factor: Gore would've run as former eight-year VP. This, historically, puts him in a much better position than Obama and Clinton; the last time a Senator won the presidency was 1960 with John Kennedy.

8-The War and Foreign Policy: Unlike Clinton, who's voted in lockstep with Bush on Iraq, Gore has vociferously opposed the war from day one. And unlike Obama, who has shown his foreign policy shortcomings on many occasion, Gore's eight years in the White House has given him tremendous exposure and experience on the global stage.

I think you can start to see the point here. That a Gore campaign would've been free of the many political challenges both Clinton and Obama face, which is why voters are having a very hard time rallying around one of them. But no matter, Gore's not running, which is unfortunate. He would've truly united the party and made one heckuva great president.

Obama Sweeps Saturday Contests. Is this the End of the Clinton Era?

Give him credit. Barack Obama has come from behind to mount an aggressive, highly -effective offensive that, without question, has made him the clear Democratic frontrunner for the 2008 presidential nomination. On Saturday, he swept Louisiana, Washington, Nebraska and the U.S. Virgin Islands, sending his rival Hillary Clinton home empty-handed (but since the Democratic Party awards delegates proportionally, Clinton stands to pick up an appreciable number of the 3-state 158 total). It was a highly impressive showing, in particular his 2-1 margins in Louisiana and Nebraska. Surveying the landscape at this time it's hard to imagine this momentum fading at any time soon. It's hard to imagine him not going all the way. In politics, momentum and perception is everything. And he looks, act and sounds like a winner. In his victory speech, he was strong, confident and driven; he carried imself like a man who had a window into the future, and he really liked what he saw. To the contrary, Clinton appeared like a tired loser; weak, scared and whose window afforded a much less exciting view.

"Today, voters from the West Coast to the Gulf Coast to the heart of America stood up to say 'yes we can," Obama told an adoring crowd of supporters at a dinner gathering in Richmond, Va.

For Obama and Clinton, after today's Maine caucus (24 delegates), the campaign heads to Tuesday's "Potomac Primaries" in Maryland, Virginia and D.C., where a total of 168 delegates are at a stake. Troubling for Clinton is Obama's near 20-point lead in both Maryland and Virginia, where 153 of those delegates are up for grabs.

Watching Obama it's hard not to get caught up in his excitement, momentum, and the truly historic aspects of his candidacy.

Could this be Obama's Big Weekend?

To anyone who knows me and reads this blog it's clear that I am pulling for NY Sen. Hillary Clinton to win the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. I of course had high hopes that former vice-president Al Gore would've entered the race, but Al seems happier collecting Emmy's, Oscars and Nobel Peace Prizes than becoming leader of the free world. And while I have not been moved by Illinois Sen. Barck Obama the way millions of others have, I could very easily get behind him should he emerge victorious from the campaign.

Let's be sure about one thing: I am a true-blue left-leaning Democrat. Nothing, and I mean nothing, would make me happier than to see these great Unites States finally have a woman or black president. In fact, it's what this country desperately needs; it's time we break free from the leadership stranglehold of rich white men. And this election gives me chills of joy thinking that (a) the Democratics Party will be nominating either Clinton or Obama, and (b) given the political landscape right now, one of them is extremely likely to become our 44th president. Historic, and beautiful.

Which is why this weekend is a most critical one, especially for Obama, whose campaign has shown much strength and momentum. As much as I'm pulling for Hillary (and I know I'm not the only Democrat wishing Bill were back in the White House too), the Washington, Louisiana, Nebraska and Maine contests could be where Obama all but puts it away. By Saturday night, he could be the clear frontrunner. He's ahead in some polling, and he's done well in the previous caususes, and there's three of them this weekend. While many are talking about the February 12 "Potomac Primiaries" in Virginia, Maryland and DC as the next big contest milestone, I believe this weekend is even more important. On the heels of last week's 24 Super-Duper Tuesday primaries and caucuses, Obama could once and for all prove that he's the people's choice to take on Arizona Sen. John McCain come November. And if so, this coming week could be the longest, most difficult in Hillary's political life.

Hillary or Obama. I'd be ecstatic either way.

Romney's Despicable Attack on Democrats. He Should Be Ashamed of Himself

Well, the guy who "hates to lose" has lost. Stick a fork in him. Former Massachusettes Gov. Mitt Romney has bailed out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination. But not before spewing a bunch of disingenuous, reprehensible garbage about his reasons. Did he say he's exiting because he's now got as much of a chance of winning the GOP nod as I do? Nah. Did he say that, as an astute businessman, he's tired of throwing good (personal) money after bad into his disastruous campaign? Nah. Here's what the flip-floppin' Stormin' Mormon did say Thursday:

"They would retreat, declare defeat, and the consequences of that would be devastating," Romney said of his Democratic rivals, NY Sen. Hillary Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. Adding that staying in the race "would make it easier for Senator Clinton or Obama to win," he went on to deliver this irresponsible and despicable accusation: "Frankly, in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding the surrender to terror."

I am so fed up with this absurd rhetoric. This notion that Democrats would "surrender to terror," and that Democrats "want to lose the war," is preposterous and must stop. Romney should be ashamed of himself. He calls himself a person of faith and hides behind his religion (as so many of these phony zealots do), yet has no problem whatsoever defaming an entire party with lies, deception and highly calculated partisan drivel. Who exactly is surrendering to terror? Who exactly wants to lose the war? Clinton? Last time I checked she's voted in lockstep with President Bush on Iraq and with national security, wiretappings, etc since she came to Washington in 2000. And so has Obama. Romney's ridiculously offensive accusations are so without merit. It just shows the true charcter of this man. The same character that's been questioned and criticized by both Democrats and Republicans. He's an insincere, shameless self-promoter and narcissist who'll say and do anything to further his mega-self-interests. Personally, I find it all, and him, disgusting. Good riddence.

What to Make of Super-Duper Tuesday and the Road Ahead

It's been about 36 hours since the results are in from the over-hyped, mega-state Super-Duper Tuesday primaries and caucuses. As I suspected, Arizona Sen. John McCain all but locked up the Republican nomination. He now sits with 689 delegates to Mike Huckabee's paltry 156 and Mitt Romney's even thinner 133. Look for Romney to leave the race fairly soon. Sure he's got all the money in world to keep going...but he didn't get mega-rich by making dumb personal financial decisions. As for Huckabee, the affable yet right-wing extremist former Arkansas governor will also soon realize that the rest of the nation's states are not as evangelical-rich as the few Southern states he won this week. Let's not forget that this part of the country, where religious zealots are in abundance, only gave the Baptist minister a mere handful of delegates. Watch McCain on TV now. He's downright giddy. New-found confidence that knows no bounds. And that's because he's now the shark who sees and smells the blood. He knows it's over.

But the Democratic landscape is anything but decided, which is a surprise to me. I had expected a much stronger showing from NY Sen. Hillary Clinton on Tuesday, and a dimmer one from her rival Illinois Sen. Barack Obama. Kudos to to Obama. He picked up key swing states like Missouri and even somehow managed to pick up states like Idaho. All in all, he captured 13 states to Hill's 8. Granted, she won huge states that really count in a national election--NY, NJ, CA--and she's ahead in the polls of many upcoming key contests in Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania for example, but we cannot discount Obama's ability to attract, excite and inspire voters. He's a great campaigner, and is even better at raising funds. He's really giving her a run for the money.

But what Clinton has that Obama doesn't is a very powerful political machine behind her. One that may very well afford her the lion's share of the all-important "super-delegates;" the behind-the-scenes party leaders and officials (governors, senators and other Democratic power-brokers) who comprise 40% of the total delegates needed to win the nomination. This advantage could likely push her over the finish line if things get too close around convention time, when the party could possibly see a brokered convention for the first time since Thomas E. Dewey took the prize in 1952. The NY Times estimates that Clinton's total count of all delegates and super-delegates currently rests at 892 to Obama's 716. That's a 20% margin, and one that would surely grow once others begin to commit to her.

I still believe that Hillary has a better cross-section of Americans behind her, which will be to Obama's detriment going forward. Clinton pulls in the blue-collar, latino, female and white female voters, as well as a healthy percentage of white males. Obama's strength remains among Blacks, white males, the wealthy and educated. To be sure, if I was running, I'd prefer Clinton's constituency over Obama's.

It's just a question of time, but the race will soon boil down to Clinton vs. McCain. And then the real fun begins.

Bush's Iraq Distraction Has Allowed Al Qaeda to Strenghten. Intelligence Chief Warns of Grave New Terror Threats to U.S.

It's a relatively small article, and it looks lost on The NY Times's bottom front page Wednesday amid all the political election coverage. The headline reads: Intelligence Chief Says Al Qaeda Improves Ability to Strike in U.S. And it's scary as all hell.

This is further confirmation of what anyone with a brain has known for several years now: that while President Bush has been recklessy squandering our precious financial and military resources on his misguided, irresponsible elective war in Iraq, our real enemy, the murderous bastards who killed thousands of our innocent citizens on 9-11-01, has been allowed to regroup and strengthen in the mountains of Pakistan, planning their next big attack here at home.

Mike McConnell, Director of National Intelligence, told a Senate panel on Tuesday that Al Qaeda head Osama bin Laden and his deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, still lead the terror organization and are promoting a new legion of lieutenants and are recruiting new militants, including Westerners (even Americans), with the goal of infiltrating the U.S and attacking domestic targets. Does this surprise anyone? The Iraq war, Bush's legacy, is the biggest military blunder in U.S. history, and has served as a colossal distraction from the war against terrorists. So, what should we expect from a nation that's taken its eye off the enemy? Chillingly, it's just a matter of time before Al Qaeda succeeds.

Senator John D. Rockefeller IV of West Virginia, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has been a vocal critic of the Busheviks' miserable failure in Iraq: "The focus of America’s military forces and intelligence resources were mistakenly shifted from delivering a decisive blow against Al Qaeda, which is the enemy."

That Bush, his inept cronies, and the GOP in general have the audacity and arogance to tout themselves as the tough national security guys--better able to protect us from terror than the "wimpy" Democrats--is absurd and infuriating. Let's hope Democrats use this new testimony to showcase just how inept the Republican leadership has been in truly protecting America.

The Swiftboating of John McCain. 'Conservatics' Are Running Scared

I had an occasion to be on a long drive Monday and treated myself to many hours of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin (I say that with tongue firmly in cheek). I do this when I can to learn what the other side is thinking. And now I'm convinced: the other side is nuts! These guys--as well as Ann Coulter, Laura Ingraham and others--are uniformly trashing Arizona Sen. John McCain, the GOP frontrunner as if he was the devil incarnate. They not only call him a liberal, which is utterly absurd, they accuse him of making liberal policy. Oddly, I found myself (if only for a fleeting, non-partisan second) thinking..."Hmmmm, if these self-serving narrow-minded blathering boorish buffoons hate him so much, maybe I should like him? Maybe, just maybe, he's the right guy to bridge the gap between Red and Blue? To be the conduit of political peace between the parties? Nah. But it's a nice thought. Like I've said all along, McCain is certainly no moderate. It's just that, to the far-right wing of the Republican Party, he's not enough of a 'conservatic' (a cross between a conservative and a lunatic).

The biggest bloviator of them all is Levin, whose syndicated radio program unfortunately polutes the airwaves each night. This guy is so rabid and venomous, and his vitriol knows no bounds. He's a nasty, angry, mean-spirited blowhard who flings ad-hominem personal attacks with reckless abandon (see: "Mike Huckaphony, Gov. Jerkenegger, Dorothy Rabi-no-wits"). He even calls his own party "Re-pubic-ans." All because they've annointed McCain the frontrunner. Man, I'd love to spar one on one with this guy, as I know exposing his ignorant, racist rhetoric for the garbage that it is would be tantamount to stealing candy from a baby. It must be really nice to have a national radio program where you can, with impunity, scream and yell and call people names as you relentlessly lie about them and everything else for that matter (so if you're out there and listening, Levin, bring it on...).

So, what exactly is the consrvatics' overall beef with McCain? As Limbaugh put it, "he doesn't speak for us." Us? Just who exactly is us? To be sure, McCain is clearly speaking to a majority of Republicans, otherwise he wouldn't be kicking dust in former Gov's Mitt Romney's (MA) and Mike Huckabee's (AR) faces. Perhaps McCain's overall popularity is a wake-up call to right-wing fanatics like Hannity, Rush, Levin, Coulter, etc. A signal that the average conservative is fed up with the politics of hate and fear and devisiveness. To the conservatics, you are not a Republican unless you have a singular platform that conforms to every single belief of theirs. There is no "big tent" for these guys. There's only one-type of "acceptible" Republican. You must be a national security junkie. You must hate taxes. You must hate illegal aliens, and wish to ship all 12-million of them back home. You must hate campaign finance reform. You must hate big government. You must hate welfare, free education and socialized medicine. You must hate gays. You must hate abortion. You must hate atheists, agnositics and anyone who doesn't believe in Creationism. You must hate Democrats, and everything they stand for. You must hate, period. And if you hate, say, most of these things, that's not good enough for the conservatics. You must hate 'em all.

The conservatics claim that McCain "will destroy the Republican Party." Well, the very conservative columnist and former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan said recently that it was George Bush who's destroyed the party. She's 1000% right. And I believe if Republicans were smart they'd recognize that McCain is the guy to unify them in the future. He's got the moderate Repubs, the conservative Dems and the highly coveted independents. In that sense, he's almost as Reaganesque as Reagan. But the conservatics hate him so much because of his impressive record of reaching across the aisles to create compromise legislation (i.e McCain-Feingold, McCain-Lieberman). But isn't that what politicians are truly supposed to do? Wasn't that the vision of our Founding Fathers? Or, as Hannity and Limbaugh would like you to believe, did they have Rovian partisan hate politics in mind instead? I am no personal fan of McCain, but I do admire his tenacity, his resolve, his independence. He strikes me as the guy who puts country and beliefs before party. Call me crazy, but that's what they all should be doing.

The conservatics also decry McCain's flip-flopping on the Bush tax cuts, but completely give their boy Romney a pass on his abrupt and very politically-timed about-face on gay marriage and abortion. Go figure.

One of my best friends is a Republican. There, I said it. Cliche, but true. "Karl" and I have been close pals for 25 years now. I love the guy, except his politics. So I asked him about all this McCain Swiftboating last night. And sure enough, I could close my eyes and hear Hannity and Levin and Limbaugh coming through loud and clear. "He doesn't represent us," said Karl, dutifully repeating the Kool-aid drinkers' mantra. I asked, what about McCain's record on the war, terrorism, Bush Tax cuts, school vouchers, abortion, guns, gays, and God? Doesn't that make him pretty damned conservative? Well yeah, Karl conceded, but then he went right back to the "doesn't represent us" thing. I guess he won't let facts and logic spoil the fantasy.

Poor conservatics. There's a party goin' on and they weren't invited. And it makes them angry. Angry like the high school nerds who weren't invited to the party either. So they are violently unleashing their venom on McCain and everyone who supports him. After Super Duper Tuesday, this just might once and for all prove to be most of the GOP. And maybe the end of the conservatic movement as we know it.

U.S. Death Toll in Iraqi Increases. So Much for the "Surge" Success

The party's over. For four months the Busheviks got to stick out their collective wannabe testosteroned-engorged chests and brag about how well the surge is working in Iraq. For four measley months the violence lessened and U.S. soldiers' deaths steadily declined. Four months. That's all it took for the lunatic-in-chief to once again mistakenly declare "Mission Accomplished." It's the same old tired story with Bush. His strategy? Just say it, and it must be true, right? Wrong. The U.S death toll reached 38 in January, a 65% increase from December. And the killings spread to Diyala and Ninevah provinces, outside Baghdad and Anbar province, and where the violence against our soldiers has been concentrated.

And while Bush blathers on incessently and deceptively about how "Al Qaeda's on the run" and "Al Qaeda knows the surge is working"...Pentagon officials and U.S. commanders on the ground caution against being too optimistic. Neither knows when we will be able to leave Iraq without the violence increasing.

Any fool knows that sending 20,000 more troops into Baghdad was only a band-aid. That the surge would not and could not stem the violence long-term, nor would it result in any real political change in the war-torn country; change that is critical if Iraq is ever to stand on its own two feet and govern independently and securely. But our president isn't just any old fool. This Bozo never seems to learn from his or anyone else's colossal mistakes. One premature "Mission Accomplished" is just not enough for him. He and his legacy hunger for victory so much that he'll lie about at it every opportunity, hoping that Americans are dumber than he is. And perhaps he's right. An exit poll last week after the Florida primaries indicated that just 14% of Republicans now deem the Iraq war to be our number one priority. Democrats aren't much better at 24%. Man, how quickly they forget. Perhaps Bush is the smart one after all.

BTW, news of the increased death toll came out the same day as the report of a 20% increase in the number of suicides in the U.S. Army; as well as an independent Congressional commission report stating that the U.S. military and our National Guard is woefully unprepared for a catastrophic attack. "Right now we don't have the forces we need; we don't have them trained; we don't have the equipment," said commission Chairman Arnold Punaro.

Why It'll Be McCain v. Clinton Come Tuesday Night

On Tuesday, voters in 22 states will go to the polls in what has become Super-Duper Tuesday...an historic day of key Democratic and Republican primaries and caucuses. By the time the polls close, I suspect the candidates left standing will be Arizona Sen. John McCain and NY Sen. Hillary Clinton. This will be largely due to several key social factors and political realities.

To begin with, on the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton has double-digit leads in about 10 states and, overall, sizeabale leads in many of the most delegate-rich states. Additionally, she has the overwhelming support of whites and latinos; the latino vote being perhaps the most critical asset for her and the biggest liability for Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, her only rival at this point (following former Senator John Edwards' suspension this week of his campaign). And while Obama picked up South Carolina's delegates last week, he was carried over the finish line by the state's large constituency of black voters. But Hillary, by a 2-to-1 margin, won the state's latinos. As the campaign now spreads out broadly across the U.S., the absence of this huge South Carolina-like black support will be pronounced, especially given Clinton's clear majority of whites and hispanics. She also is the favorite among the poor and middle class, and those less educated...and there's a whole lot more of them than the wealthier, educated Whites who, along with blacks, comprise Obama's key supporters. The Obama camp also touts large support among the nation's youth, but, unless this year is different (which it very well may be), history shows that young people just don't show up at the polls on election day.

What could slam the door shut on the hispanic vote would be for someone like New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson--historically a loyal Clintonite--to come out with a Hillary endorsement sometime tomorrow or over the weekend. I believe this is very likely. In exchange, and given his credentials, he sure would make for a helluva Secretary of State.

Lastly, and this should come as a shock to no one, America is still quite a racist nation. This is the biggest hurdle of all for Obama. Are voters ready for a black president? As a mostly liberal Democrat, nothing in my lifetime would make me happier than to see a black man or woman become president. And if that's 2008, I would be ecstatic. But I'm also a realist. I just don't think most voters, come lever-time, will vote for Obama. All we need to do, if we're looking for a reminder of the scale of our nation's ignorance and prejudice, is to go back to '04, when hatred of gays drove many to overlook their own best interests and be usued instead as political pawns by Karl Rove.

So, stack all this up and it appears very unlikely that Obama will emerge victorious on Super Duper Tuesday. It is more likely that on Wednesday, February 6th, Obama will officially leave the race.

Now for the Republican landscape. McCain is clearly the choice among conservatives. Despite what former Massachusettes Gov. Mitt Romney keeps saying, McCain's overall message is clearly resonating quite well among those right-wingers that the Stormin' Mormon covets. McCain keeps winning primaries for a reason. He's appealing to a coalition of independents, conservative Democrats and moderate Republicans...the latter of whom obviously represents the majority of GOP voters these days. Come Tuesday, I think McCain will largely win most of the states, with a few smaller ones perhaps going for Romney. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee will likely win a couple of Southern states--Georgia and Tennessee perhaps--where a minority of ultra right wing evangelical types cling to the delusional notion that a majority of Republicans still care most about whether gays marry or if women get abortions. And it is precisely for this gross miscalculation that McCain has so far blown past his rivals....demonstrating that it is he, not they, who is more in touch with today's conservative. The Huckabee-worshipping fanatics no longer represent the party nor wield the kind of clout that Rove masterfully preyed upon in 2000 and 2004.

And now with the endorsements of former NYC Mayor (and once-GOP frontrunner) Rudy Giuliani and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, McCain's momentum seems unstoppable. Throw in a possible veep choice of Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the independent Democrat who is more conservative than the average Republican, and McCain could very well sail all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania next November.

The Real Threat to Democrats: McCain/Lieberman

Though much of the 2008 presidential campaign is still technically ahead of us, the fact is, Arizona Sen. John McCain seems all but certain to win the GOP nomination. Give the plucky war hero some credit. You could've stuck a fork in his campaign just a couple of months ago. Like him or not (and I don't), the guy's a survivor...whether it's enduring 5 years of torture as a North Vietnamese prisoner of war, or as a presidential candidate. After a highly contentious and losing effort in 2000 against the leader of the real Axis of Evil (Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, Rice, Gonzalez), 2008 finally looks like John McCain's time in the political sun. And if the scrappy Senator chooses Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman as his vice presidential running mate--as I suspect he will--I believe he will not only win the Republican nomination, but also the big prize next November. Democrats should be afraid. Very, very afraid. Against either leading Democrat--NY Senator Hillary Clinton or Illinois Sen. Barack Obama--this would be an unbeatable ticket.

To be sure, a McCain/Lieberman ticket would not only be attractive to run-of-the-mill Republicans, but to conservative Democrats and independents alike. On the religious front, Lieberman would likely draw the Jewish vote, as well as evangelicals, who adore his piousness. And Old Joe is an already vetted, proven entity. Remember that former veep Al Gore won the popular vote in 2000 with Lieberman on the ticket. That was eight years ago. Cut to '08, and the big question is this: are voters in the United States--a country unfortunately still riddled with racial, religious and gender discrimination and prejudice--while clearly accepting of a Jew in the White House, ready to elect a Black or a woman? This is not to say that Clinton or Obama cannot win in the general election. But the simple fact is that Republicans and independents are not going to vote for Clinton. And while Obama might fare slightly better with some left-leaning independents, the bulk of these renegades will clearly go to McCain. This landscape presents a steep uphill climb for either Democrat.

Now let's look at McCain for minute. We know he's tough. We know he's a war hero. And while he's without question a military hawk, he does have a deep respect and concern for our servicemen and women, given his own battle scars. Unlike our draft-dodging president, who never knew firsthand the pain and suffering of war, the odds are McCain would think long and hard before sending our troops into battle. And as a relentlessly tortured POW, he also has an unwavering respect for the Geneva Conventions, and was an aggressive opponent of former Attorney General and torture-monger Alberto Gonzalez. This makes him a very attractive choice among the national security crowd. Ditto for Lieberman.

On the fiscal side, while he's certainly not put forth any ground-breaking economic proposals (his recent stimulus plan is "long-term based" and actually quite weak), he is a pro-growth, smaller-government, free-trader who initially opposed the Bush tax cuts but now favors them. Again, these positions will certainly appeal to Repubs, conservative Dems and the highly coveted indies.

And while I for one don't buy into this myth, he's somehow earned the reputation as a moderate, which he is anything but. Not militarily, not fiscally, and certainly not on social issues like abortion and gay marriage. Yet all of this has been tempered by his much-revered rebel status. Someone who marches to the beat of his own drummer. While he's indeed sucked up to, and backed down from, Bush and others on many occasions, this independent cred, and that of Lieberman, could really resonate among voters fed up with Bush, politics and politicians in general. Stack up this ticket against "more Clinton years," as many Republicans and Democrats loudly lament, and you can see how easily it could be for McCain to be our 44th president. And by putting Lieberman on his ticket, McCain, in my opinion, becomes a shoe-in.

So, how real is this threat? A new Los Angeles Time/Bloomberg poll released Thursday has Clinton at just 46% to McCain's 42%. With 10 months to go until the election, and with what we know of McCain's record as a fighter and survivor, these are very scary numbers.

Here's What Hillary Should be Saying About "Change"

Watching the remaining crop of Democratic candidates for president--Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards--you'd get the impression they're all Washington outsiders bringing a fresh, independent vision to a process that's dominated by lobbyists, special interests and the old guard. The most prominent self-professed agent of change is Barack Obama, who also just happens to be in a very exclusive group of 100 of the world's most powerful people: the U.S. Senate. Ditto for Hillary Clinton, who also belongs to another very powerful political machine called the Clintons. And John Edwards, a former member of this prestigious group of Washington insiders, is also an extremely wealthy trial lawyer. These three hardly can hardly portray themselves as agents of change with any real credibility.

But if I was heading the Clinton campaign, here's what I'd be telling her to do: start talking about changing things back to the way they were when she and Bill resided in the White House. We don't need to bring anything "new" to Washington. Just bring back the old. Is there any rational Democrat (or even moderate Republican or independent for that matter) who would not like to turn the clock back to when we experienced unprecedented economic prosperity (low inflation, 23 million new jobs, a $230 billion budget surplus; surging stock market); were a country at peace; and were still respected in much of the world? When we were led by an intelligent, curious, responsible president who could also string together two sentences without sounding like an unintelligible moron? A president who left office with a healthy 62% approval rating.

So why is Hillary--an obvious life-long Washington insider--trying to pawn herself off as an agent of change rather than reminding us of all this relative peace, prosperity and popularity from '92-'00? What's wrong with looking back to the future? The eight years of Clinton-Gore represents a time in our country that we could use again. While I had hoped that the former vice-president would enter the race, he clearly is not (unless he slips in under a brokered convention should neither Obama and Clinton get enough delegates to win the nomination...a dream I'm still holding out for). Personally, I'd give my right arm to have Bill back in the White House, under any circumstance. I for one don't need "change," just a solid return to those indisputably successful years. And if Hillary Clinton were to remind voters of this instead of getting caught up in this bogus "agent of change" game, she'd sail straight to the White House.

Obama Shows His True Colors

The 2008 presidential campaign is heating up intensely, with the two Democratic rivals, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, at each others' throats in a fight for political survival. And it ain't pretty. In the past week the issues of gender and race entered the fray in a way that would make Karl Rove proud. But it's not as two-sided as some are saying. The culprit, in my opinion, is Obama and his surrogates, who have ratcheted up the incendiary rhetoric to a reckless, embarrassing level. For Obama, it's not about black or white, but gray. He's become quite adept at saying one thing and doing another. Of presenting himself as the candidate of change; one who'll bring civility and honorability back to the campaign trail. Of staying "above the fray," but then fraying with the best of 'em. Of blurring the racial lines in this hotly contested race and using race in both an inspirational manner and a devious, calculating one. And that's what we saw this past week. The real Barack Obama.

It all started with the now infamous comments by both Hillary and Bill Clinton, which were taken so way out of context, and blown so way out of proportion, that many in Washington and in the media should be ashamed of themselves. In short, during a recent speech, the former president, while characterizing Obama's positions on Iraq (on purportedly being so different than Hillary's), frustratingly said "This whole thing is the biggest fairy tale I've ever seen." Somehow Clinton, who was affectionately dubbed "the first black president" by Toni Morrison back in the 90's, got entwined in a game of verbal Twister not seen since his "what 'is' is" days. The comment was interpreted as "Obama's candidacy is a fairy tale," with Bubba accused of racial insensitivity. Give us a break. All anyone needs to do is listen to the entire speech and Bill's point becomes quite clear. But that didn't stop NBC's Tim Russert, host of Meet the Press, from playing just the short comment clip during his Hillary interview Sunday and asking her about Bill's racial insensitivity. And it didn't stop South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn from piling on about this supposed racial insensitivity. And it didn't stop the NY Times columnist Bob Herbert from totally distorting the facts either. Nor did it stop countless others from spewing this nonsense.

And then, as Murphy's Law would have it, Hillary fanned the flames with her own alleged racial insensitivity. Commenting last week on the civil rights movement, Hillary suggested that Obama's inspirational speeches are not enough to truly effect change. Of the comparisons Obama has drawn for himself to John Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King, Clinton said "Dr. King's dream began to be realized when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964...It took a president to get it done." Ruh-ro. More wild accusations. More distortions. Say what you will, but Clinton's comment is dead-on. A grass-roots movement alone cannot move a nation towards real change without legislators heeding the will of the people and passing legislation ensuring lasting change. Back in the 60's the system worked. The people, led by Dr. King, brought the civil rights crisis to a boil. And Johnson used his position of power to make it law. That was and is Clinton's point.

Let's be sure about one thing: it is utterly irresponsible and reprehensible to portray the Clintons as racists or of being racially insensitive. What they have done over the years for minorities is well documented and respected. They have been champions of, and within, the Black community. The events of the past week are nothing more than shameful attempts by the Obama camp to play the race card for pure political gain.

What is Happening to the NY Times? Not One Single Word About McClellan's Bush Bombshell

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McLellan caused quite a ruckus Tuesday with the startling (but certainly not surprising) revelation that his former bosses instructed him to outright lie to the American public over the Valerie Plame CIA leak case.

In his book "What Happened," due out in April, McClellan accuses the Busheviks of orchestrating a campaign of lies and deception over the Plame case. Consider this explosive excerpt:

"I stood at the White House briefing room podium in front of the glare of the klieg lights for the better part of two weeks and publicly exonerated two of the senior-most aides in the White House: Karl Rove and Scooter Libby," McClellan wrote. "There was one problem. It was not true. I had unknowingly passed along false information. And five of the highest ranking officials in the administration were involved in my doing so: Rove, Libby, the vice president, the president's chief of staff and the president himself." At the time, the chief of staff was Andy Card.

Let's take a minute for some quick background: The Busheviks lied about Iraq's alleged WMD arsenal in the run-up to the invasion. They also claimed that Niger was selling Yellowcake uranium to Saddam Hussein. They sent Ambassador Joe Wilson to Africa in '02 to investigate. He came back and reported that he found nothing to substantiate this claim. Despite this finding, Bush re-stated the claim in his January '03 State of the Union Address to bolster his case for war. Angered by this blatant lie, Wilson wrote an op-ed piece in July '03 titled "What I Didn't Find in Africa." This pissed off the Bushies, and in a criminal act of retaliation they revealed the identity of Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, who at the time was a covert CIA operative. And then they told former Cheney chief of staff Scooter Libby to lie about it all during special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's CIA leak investigation. And then, as payback for his cover up, Bush commuted Libby's sentence after he was convicted of obstruction of justice, perjury and lying to investigators. And now it's being revealed by McClellan that he was instructed by his bosses--including the president and vice president--to stand before the media and voters and lie about it all as further protection against the erupting scandal.

Wow. Bush and Cheney shouldn't just be impeached...they should go to jail. Which is exactly where you or I'd be if we manufactured WMD evidence, outed a covert CIA agent as revenge against her whistle-blowing husband, and then obstructed justice with more lies and a criminal cover up.

But where the hell is the NY Times on this story? Nowhere. Incredibly, not one solitary word in Wednesday's newspaper. This is a huge bombshell with monumental ramifications--criminal behavior on the part of Bush, Cheney, Rove, Libby, Card-- which could and should finally take down this corrupt, disgraceful administration. Could be the biggest political scandal since Watergate. And how is it covered by the Times? It's not. I'm starting to think this once relevant newspaper must be secretly owned by Rupert Murdoch.

Where is the firebrand journalism that the venerable Washington Post demonstrated back in the 70's in serving to take down the corrupt Nixon administration? How is it possible that a story this important goes unreported in the NY Times? It's a sad commentary on the mainstream media overall. They've given this corrupt, criminal administration a virtual pass since it stepped inside the White House in 2000. It's allowed the Busheviks to lie, cheat, deceive, steal and bully with impunity. All you need to do is watch a Bush press conference in the White House press room to see just how neutered the press is. Bush is nasty, condescending, unrevealing, taunting and cavalier as he side-steps the issues and offers inane muck instead. And the press allows it. You can see the fear in their eyes, hoping that Bush doesn't publicly ridicule them, as he has done so often when he hears a tough question he doesn't particularly like. The media ought to be ashamed of itself. And now the Times seems to have joined this pathetic group.

NY Times Reports Big Progress in Baghdad. What Kind of Objective Crap is That!?

In it's huge front page story Tuesday, the NY Times, that venerable bastion of alleged left-wing media bias, practically gushed with excitement and enthusiasm for the progress reportedly being made in this city, the heart and capital of Iraq. Certainly would appear to confirm that the Bush "surge"--30,000 additional U.S. troops deployed to Baghdad five months ago--is working. Here's a little snippet from the Times' story:


..."The security improvements in most neighborhoods are real. Days now pass without a car bomb, after a high of 44 in the city in February. The number of bodies appearing on Baghdad’s streets has plummeted to about 5 a day, from as many as 35 eight months ago, and suicide bombings across Iraq fell to 16 in October, half the number of last summer and down sharply from a recent peak of 59 in March, the American military says. As a result, for the first time in nearly two years, people are moving with freedom around much of this city. In more than 50 interviews across Baghdad, it became clear that while there were still no-go zones, more Iraqis now drive between Sunni and Shiite areas for work, shopping or school, a few even after dark. In the most stable neighborhoods of Baghdad, some secular women are also dressing as they wish. Wedding bands are playing in public again, and at a handful of once shuttered liquor stores customers now line up outside in a collective rebuke to religious vigilantes from the Shiite Mahdi Army."

But wait, isn't the NY Times supposed to be a pawn of the left? A biased, radical fringe rag that never gets it right, especially when partisan politics is involved? Don't the Repugs always summarily dismiss anything written there as nonobjective, liberal trash? "Oh, you read it in the Times," they say mockingly. "The Times slants everything to the left," they taunt. "The Times literally makes things up to support the Democratic agenda," they incredulously claim.

But I bet they love the Times today! Oh, you can bet the Busheviks and the right-wing spin-monkeys like Sean Insanity and Rush Limp-baugh are gonna have a field day today with this one. "Bush is/was right," they'll say. "We're now winning the war in Iraq," they'll boast. "See, it's even in the NY Times!," they'll beam. These lying hypocrites will put the Times on a virtual pedestal today, but for one day only. You can bet your lefty ass that the nanosecond the paper reports something they don't like, the Times will no longer be this great source of truth, and instead will once again return to being a disgraceful puppet of the left.

Repug ChickenHawks Step Up the Tough-Guy Talk on Iran. But Will They Send Their Sons and Daughters this Time?

To listen to President George Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and the leading Republican presidential contenders for 2008 you’d think these guys actually believe they know what the hell they’re talking about when it comes to foreign policy and military matters. But after having been one-bazillion percent wrong on just about every detail leading up to the Iraq invasion and the ensuing occupation, here they go yet again, this time beating their reckless, delusional war drums over Tehran. Will they ever learn? Or more importantly, will we?

In the past week, the draft-dodging Bush chillingly warned that a confrontation with Iran over WMD could drag us all into WWIII, while his snake-oil salesman Cheney chomped his venomous teeth into yet another macho man-wannabe warning to "the world’s most active state sponsor of terrorism" that it faces "serious consequences" if it builds its nuclear arsenal. "We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon," snarled Dr. Evil. Just like we took care of Saddam’s deadly WMD arsenal, right Dick?

And then there are the ’08 hopefuls, all jockeying for position in the "I’m the toughest tough guy” contest. Hoping to win first-prize, former NYC Mayor and front runner Rudy Julie-Annie has said "it’s a promise, not a threat" that the U.S. will do whatever necessary, including using military force, to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. And one-upping the cross-dressing hawk was former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who on Thursday, claiming the threat from Iran as so grave, said he’d be willing to use a military blockade or "bombardment of some kind" to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. I’d love to ask the war-mongering, God-fearing, uber-patriot Romney if the threat is so grave that he’d urge his five privileged Ralph Lauren model look-alike sons to suit up and take arms to defend America, or is he suggesting that as with Iraq only our sons and daughters fight this fight too. If the mainstream media had an ounce of balls in that empty sack of theirs they’d ask him--and the rest of these Princes of Deferment--that very question every time they even remotely ratchet up the "let’s invade Iran" rhetoric. But they won’t. And I suppose the self-righteous Stormin’ Mormon will be allowed instead to continue espousing his nonsensical claim that his red-blooded, able-bodied, square-jawed Anglo-Saxon prodigies are serving this great nation by helping out his chicken hawk dad on the campaign trail.

It’s time for Americans to wake up and smell the $4 Starbucks coffee. Are we going to stop these irresponsible maniacs from leading America down another lethal road of more hatred, more bloodshed and more chaos? Ya know the old expression, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. These dangerous old men--overgrown ‘tweens who never got over playing army--are fucking with real human lives here. So, what are we gonna do about the "mushroom cloud" gang this time?

Soul-Selling Repugs Continue to Pander to Shrinking Evangelical Base

Forget that we're embroiled in a disastrous war that's killed almost 4000 U.S. soldiers. Forget that the economy still struggles with anemic job creation and consumer confidence, record debt, inflation concerns, skyrocketing fuel costs, weak housing and credit markets, and fears of recession. Forget that 45-million Americans are without health insurance. Forget that our public education system is in shambles. Forget that so many God-fearing "values" Repugs have been rocked by salacious scandal. Because according to evangelicals, the most pressing problems in America today remain whether or not two homosexuals should marry, or whether a woman should have the legal right to an abortion. Or whether a bunch of testosterone-starved neanderthals should have the right to play with firearms. Guns, God and gays. Despite a nation in crisis, it's all these narrow-minded religious fanatics have ever been concerned with, and it's all they ever will . And the pack of GOP presidential hopefuls has been literally tripping over each other in pandering to these right-wing extremists in a bid for their 2008 support. It's a pathetic sight to see.

These flip-flopping opportunists are selling their souls to the devil for a few votes. If you listen to Mitt Romney, Rudy Julie-Annie, Fred Thompson and John McCain, you'd think all they do is sit around in church all day. At the Values Voters Summit in Washington last week, the candidates shamelessly dropped their drawers to appear more fanatical than the next. They couldn't have sounded more right-wing extremist if they tried. And to some people, it apparently worked. The NY Times on Saturday quoted Merrily Crowe, an evangelical from Tennessee, who was moved by McCain's emotional, Jesus-coated Vietnam anecdote about compassionate prison guards and crosses. Prior to McCain's hallelujah performance, Crowe had ruled him out because of ideological differences. "When I listened to him, the thought occurred to me for the first time that I'd consider voting for him," Crowe said. Sure, all it takes for some of these lost souls is one little tear-jerker about a crucifix in the ground and they're quick to toss out every socio-economic issue they stand for. Jesus saves.....

Thankfully, the statistics show that the evangelical movement is much smaller and less influential than in '04 and '00 and getting smaller every day. To be sure, that they are on the verge of splitting from the GOP and considering propping up a 3rd party candidate is a solid indication of this trend. But no ones's apparently told the pack of '08 Repugs. Guns, God and gays. They love the way it sounds. It's like a drug to them. They just can't help themselves from pandering to this radical fringe no matter how insignificant and obsolete it's become. They remain, simply and somewhat surprisingly, utterly out of touch with most of America. And that's a great thing for the Democrats in '08.

"Run Gore Run!" Campaign Starts Today

A brilliant idea came to me from my good friend and fellow Al Gore supporter Julie out in Los Angeles. Ask any Democrat whether or not they want former vice president Al Gore to run for president in 2008 and you'll get an emphatic 'yes.' Last week the organization DraftGore.com took a full page ad in the NY Times issuing an impassioned plea for The Goracle to enter the race, a subject I went on MSNBC's Hardball to discuss. Also that week Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize for his tireless, 30-year effort to address the growing threat from global warming. Can his resume get any more attractive? He is the most qualified individual in the Democratic Party, by far, and he should be president.

Well, it's time to take the "draft" movement one step further. It's time for each and every one of to take action. If you want Gore to run, SCREAM IT the best way you can. Put a large "Run Gore Run" sign(s) in your window. How great would it be for Al to see these signs everywhere he went, in every city, every town. An impassioned plea directly from the people themselves.

Display your signs as soon as possible. And forward this to all of your Democratic friends. And tell them to forward it to their friends. Let's get millions of homes across America to deliver the loudest, most personal message we can to the only candidate who can lead our great nation out of this domestic and international crisis.

To all those Republicans who mock Gore and discount the threat from global warming...if you can do me a favor and help us locate Autumn that would be great. Seems like Summer doesn't own a calendar. Almost November here in NYC and still pushing 80.

On Wednesday DraftGore.com took a full page ad in the New York Times with the headline "An Open Letter to Al Gore" in which the organization issued an impassioned plea to the former vice president to enter the 2008 presidential election:

I'm scheduled to appear today (Friday 10/12), but as always these things can change last minute. "Hardball" airs live on MSNBC at 5PM EST and is repeated at 7PM EST.

Limbaugh Says “Liberals Hate this Country.” It’s time to Boycott His Advertisers & Get Him Off the Air

On his syndicated radio program Monday, right-wing blow-hard Rush Limbaugh once again attacked the patriotism of his detractors by making the outrageous, infuriating and egregious claim that "liberals hate this country." His rant came in defense against the threat of a Congressional investigation initiated by Rep. Henry Waxman (CA) into the questionable broadcasting practices of this big, fat hypocritical liar and his conservative cohorts like Sean Hannity and Mark Levin.

Let’s get something straight. I am a proud, card-carrying member of the Liberal tribe and I do not hate America. To the contrary, I love my country, respect and support the military, and can be as hawkish as Sen. John McCain (AZ) when our nation is threatened. Like most Democrats, I fully supported the invasion of Afghanistan following the 9/11 attacks, and I’d use aggressive military force in a heartbeat to hunt down and kill our enemies again. How dare Limbaugh attack and deny my love of country, my patriotism, my willingness to use force if need be to defend America. How dare he, as he has done again last week to much controversy, attack and slander certain soldiers as "fake" simply because they had the courage to criticize Bush’s fiasco in Iraq. You wanna talk "fake," Rush? Fake is sitting behind a microphone in some cushy air-conditioned studio ranting and raving like John Wayne when those with real bravery and courage are fighting and dying thousands of miles away in the excrutiating desert heat. Tell us again, Rush, what branch of the U.S. Armed Services you served in? Exactly.

It’s time for this polarizing, incendiary partisan rhetoric to come to a grinding halt. I believe I speak for most Americans when I say enough is enough. We’re sick and tired of this bloviating, drug-addicted chickenhawk slandering anyone who dares disagree with his irrational, ideological demagoguery and the reckless policies of his utterly inept party. No one is off-limits to this creton, not servicemen and women, minorities or the handicapped. He is a rapacious, unapologetic bully; a colossal ignoramus who exists only to spread lies and deception in his unflinching, maniacal loyalty to Bush and the Repugs. It’s time to take him down, now.

As such, I am urging Democrats everywhere to boycott the goods and services of the advertisers and sponsors of The Rush Limbaugh Show, broadcast daily by Clear Channel Communications. Is Obama "Fizzling?" Is Gore Getting Ready to Announce?

Back in early June I was at a function with Bill Clinton and asked him if he thought Al Gore was going to run for president in '08. "I don't know, he could. Someone's got to fizzle," he said. "If someone fizzles, then yeah he could enter the race. He's got plenty of money, his own money, to do it." He added that Gore has the kind of personal wealth to be able to wait until the last stages of the campaign before he'd enter the race.

Well hold onto your seats, kids. Clinton's prescience is beginning to surface. A new ABC News/Wall Street Journal Poll Wednesday showed New York Sen. Hillary Clinton with a commanding 53%-20% lead over Barack Obama, the junior Senator from Illinois. For the first time, Clinton now has the support of a majority of Democrats. Compounding this problem for Obama is the Q3 fundraising data released Tuesday showing an alarming 40% drop in cash raised from Q2, to $19 million from $31 million. Clinton meanwhile has steadily increased her funds each quarter, from $20 million in Q1, $21 in Q2 and $22 million since July.

If this doesn't qualify for "fizzling" I don't know what does. And if there ever was a more opportune time for the former veep to toss his hat into the ring, this is it. Consider this: the January Iowa caucus is right around the corner. Iowans are rabidly anti-war. Sen. Clinton voted to authorize the war, and has basically marched in lock-step with President Bush and the Republicans on this issue ever since. We all know Gore's position then and now on Iraq. Iowans would lap up his candidacy like a stray cat at a bowl of milk. With Obama losing steam fast, Gore could waltz right into this contest and be the giant-slayer whose unparalleled credentials, popularity and rightful claim to the White House could literally deflate the Clinton bubble overnight.

It's October. It's time. Could an announcement be right around the corner?

"Childrens Do Learn." Is this Our President or Ali G?

In an effort last week to prove that his No Child Left Behind education bill is working, President Bush, citing recently released improved math test scores, declared, "Childrens do learn when standards are high and results are measured"...thus finally answering his own 2001 question, "Is our children learning?

It's pretty sad when, by comparison, both Buckwheat and Ali G are the great communicators. Both have a better command of the English language than our grammatically-challenged president. Just when I think this colossal dunce cannot possibly embarrass us any more he offers up another of his legendary malapropisms.

Adrienne's film "Waitress" opened in theatres May 2nd to rave reviews from the NY Times, LA Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Time, People, Entertainment Weekly, Ebert & Roeper ("Two Thumbs Up"), Leonard Maltin and others, and has so far grossed $19-million domestically and almost $1-million internationally.
